I have a prescription for methadone to treat my dependence on opiates. I pay $13/day and drive 300 miles/week to get it. I have been clean for 1.5 years and want to spend the rest of my life sober. (While spending approx $500/month of treatment, gas and vehicle repairs, etc.) I cannot afford to get help addressing my underlying psychoses. And I earn too much money to get any kind of social aid. Was addicted to all sorts of opiates over the last few years. Switched to suboxone a year ago and have been gradually weening down. I started with 5 now I am down to 3. I have lost so much money from them- so expensive! I had medicaid in Ny and just moved to FLorida. Will be some time before I set up insurance.
